Drinking Games: The Price is Right

I invented the Price is Right drinking game back in Freshman year. One December morning I awoke to find that our fair university had been hit by a blizzard (fate?) and decided not to go to any class that day. Instead, being a diligent student, I plopped down on the couch and started watching the only channel we got on the TV in our dorm room. What was on? Lo and behold, the same show every kid watches when they’re home from school - The Price is Right, in all its shimmering, consumerist glory.

Naturally, it being a Friday, I had drinking on the brain and decided to come up with a few rules. We tested the game the next week (yeah, it’s on at 11AM) and much to our surprise got completely wasted in the space of an hour. It turns out, I had stumbled upon one of the most potent and fun drinking games I’ve ever played. My friends and I continue to play the game a few times a year and it has never failed us - it even survived the transition from Bob Barker to Drew Carey. Here’s how you play (if you’re man enough):

You Will Need:

Several people as dumb as you are, a TV with a channel that gets The Price is Right, a VCR/TiVo (Live is better, but I understand if you can’t just get drunk at 11AM all the time), a bevy of alcoholic beverages

The Rules

Take One Drink Everytime …

1. The announcer says “Come on down!”
2. Someone is wearing a homemade T-shirt
3. Someone bids $1 or $1 above someone else (ie. contestant 1 bids $500 and contestant two bids $501, take a drink)
4. The announcer says, “It’s a new car!”
5. A contestant kisses Bob/Drew
6. Someone wins a game

Finish Your Drink Everytime…

1. Someone gets $1 on the big wheel, whether it’s by 1 spin or 2
2. They play Plinko
3. A contestant wins a new car
4. Someone wins both showcases

The rules might look sparse but I promise you that if you’re not careful the game will make you pay. The average consumption in an hour-long episode is about 6 beers, so if you’re drinking mixed drinks, mix them light. Trust me, though, this game never fails to end in a good time, so give it a try next time you plan on getting buzzed.
